The project took place regarding the legal council elections at the end of 2010, which was a year full of football, but also with elections in Ghana. The main goal of the project “Soccer for democracy” was to sensitise the candidates for their role regarding the local democracy system. The candidates were referred to their rights and duties. The main focus of the project was to voice the “guard dog” function of the citizens. Moreover the project wanted to empower the local people to call the electoral delegates to account for their actions. Furthermore the habit to use money as a bait for a good outcome of election should be denunciated. In all the project was fighting the habit to dispute local elections with party political topics.

Das Projekt fand im Hinblick auf die Gemeinderatswahlen Ende 2010 statt. 2010 war ein Jahr mit Weltklassefußball, aber auch mit landesweiten Wahlen in Ghana. Das Hauptziel des Projekts „Soccer for Democracy“ war, die Kandidaten für ihre Rolle im lokalen Demokratiesystem zu sensibilisieren. Die Kandidaten wurden auf ihre Rechte und Pflichten hingewiesen. Der Hauptfokus des Projekts war, dass die „Wachhund“-Funktion der Bürger zum Ausdruck gekommen ist. Weitere Ziele waren, die Zivilgesellschaft zu ermutigen, ihre Wahlmänner und –frauen für ihre Handlungen verantwortlich zu machen. Außerdem sollte die Gewohnheit, Geld als Köder für einen guten Wahlausgang zu benutzen, angeprangert werden. Schließlich kämpfte das Projekt gegen die Gewohnheit, lokale Wahlkämpfe mit parteipolitischen Themen zu bestreiten.
