THE YOUTH SPEAK 2017

Last Saturday, 29th of April 2017 finally the launching of this years AIM Youth Magazine „The Youth Speak“ took place. And consequently the result of Mellis’ and my work since beginning of our volunteer service in Ghana. It was a long way to walk with some challenges we had to face. But we defintly had some wonderful moments with our students who (mostly) were motivated and interested and filled this magazine with stories, articles, poems or riddles. You will find topics like “Ghana, our nation” including an interview with the MP for K.E.E.A. Samuel Atta Mills, “What does beauty mean to people in Ghana?”, “Love & Sex” or “Recycling with Bottle Caps”. With one of our schools we even realized a picture story about “child marriage”. All of that you can find in the Youth Magazine.

So last Saturday we invited all our students, the contact teachers an some more guests to Komenda to present the Magazine. There were held some speeches by Solomon (Director of AIM), Papa Kojo (Chairman) and Melli and me. Some of the students eased the programme by dance and singing performances. Actually also the AIM culture group should have performed but unfortunately all of their members had gone on holiday. Therefore we needed an alternative option. And as i.a. Michael and me are having drumming and dancing lessons with Oboye, the organizer of the Culture Group and professional dancer and drummer, we decided two days before the launching that we are going to perform together with James from AIM. In colourful outfits we performed two culture dances and together with Maxim and the drumming crew a small drumming performance and it was definitely a lot of fun.

But back to the magazine. Before the launching all the magazines were covered with plenty of materials and one after the other they were taken off, to increase the tension. And then finally it was there, the Youth Magazine. There were taken some pictures, the students received certificates and snacks were distributed and after that the program was done.

We finished off the day together with the AIM. staff, drinks, beer and cake at our favourite spot in Komenda “Sacro Bosco” and in the evening I fell really tired but happy asleep.

THE YOUTH SPEAK 2017

Letzten Samstag, 29. April 2017 war es endlich soweit: die diesjährige Ausgabe des AIM. Youth Magazine „The Youth Speak“ wurde veröffentlicht. Und somit das Ergebnis von Melli und meiner Arbeit seit Beginn unseres Freiwilligendienstes. Es war ein langer Weg, mit der ein oder anderen Herausforderung. Doch wir hatten wirklich wundervolle Momente mit unseren Studenten, die (meistens) motiviert und interessiert am Workshop mitgearbeitet und somit die Zeitschrift mit Artikeln, Gedichten, Geschichten oder Rätseln gefüllt haben. Zu finden sind Themen wie „Ghana, our nation“ inklusive Interview mit dem Abgeordneten Samuel Atta-Mills von K.E.E.A., „Was bedeutet Schönheit für die Ghanaer“, „Love & Sex“ oder „Basteln mit Kronkorken“. Mit einer Schule haben wir auch eine Foto-Story zum Thema „Kinderheirat“ realisiert; alles zu finden im Youth Magazine.

Am Samstag luden wir alle unsere Schüler, die Kontaktlehrer und ein paar weitere Gäste nach Komenda ein, um das Magazin mit einer kleinen Feier zu präsentieren. Es wurden ein Reden gehalten von Solomon (Director von AIM), Papa Kojo (Chairman) und Melli und mir. Einige Schüler lockerten das Programm mit Tanz und Singeinlagen auf. Auch die Culture Group von AIM sollte auftreten. Doch da die Mitglieder alle in den Ferien waren, musste eine Alternative her. U.a. haben Michi und ich seit letzem Jahre bei Oboye, dem Organisator der Culture Group und professioneller Tänzer und Trommler, Tanz- und Trommelunterricht. Und so haben wir zwei Tage vor dem Launching beschlossen, für die Culture Group gemeinsam mit James von AIM einzuspringen. In bunt-gemusterten Outfits haben wir neben zwei flotten Culture-Dances mit Maxim und der Trommelgruppe auch noch eine kleine Trommeleinlage vorgeführt, und es hat wirklich Spaß gemacht.

Aber zurück zum Magazin. Vor Beginn wurde es mit einer Menge von Stoffen bedeckt und nach und nach wurden diese gegen Spende abgenommen um die Spannung zu steigern. Und irgendwann tadaaaa, lag es da, das Youth Magazine. Es wurden ein paar Fotos geknipst, die Schüler erhielten noch Zertifikate und nach einem kleinen Snack war das Ganze auch schon wieder vorbei.

Den Tag ließen wir gemeinsam mit den AIM Leuten, Getränken, Bier und Kuchen in unserem Lieblingsspot „Sacro Bosco“ in Komenda ausklingen und ich fiel am Abend todmüde und glücklich ins Bett.
